Golf Datatech, a subsidiary of Circana, reported that golf rounds played in the U.S. increased 1.9 percent in August and 1.4 percent in the first eight months of 2024.
By region for the month, the most significant gain was seen in South Central, up 6.7 percent; followed by Pacific, 4.8 percent; New England, 3.5 percent; Mountain, 3.1 percent; West North Central, 2.9 percent; and East North Central, 2.4 percent. Declining regions included Mid-Atlantic, down 3.5 percent; and South Atlantic, off 2.6 percent.
In the year-to-date period, the Mountain region had the biggest gain in golf rounds played, up 5.5 percent; followed by East North Central, 3.9 percent; Pacific, 3.3 percent; West North Central, 2.6 percent; and New England, 1.2 percent. Rounds played were flat in South Central and Mid-Atlantic. The one declining region in the eight months was South Atlantic, down 2.6 percent.
August’s 1.9 percent gain marked some recovery after rounds slid 1.4 percent in July. Rounds played were up 1.2 percent in June, down 0.8 percent in May, up 0.8 percent in April, jumped 21.2 percent in March and advanced 4.9 percent in February. Golf rounds declined 16.6 percent in January as rain impacted play in several regions nationwide.
