The administrator of the Transportation Security Administration announced Wednesday that he would drop his effort to allow small knives and some sporting goods gear in carry-on luggage on planes, USA Today reported.
TSA Administrator John Pistole had recommended permitting passengers to carry knives with blades of up to 2.36 inches, golf clubs and hockey and lacrosse sticks into passenger cabins in March to free up baggage screeners to focus on looking for bombs that could bring down an aircraft. The suggestion prompted immediate opposition from law enforcement officials, flight attendants and air travel passengers.
