Tracksmith, the Boston-based run apparel startup, closed a $4.1 million Series A round funding with Pentland Group, the U.K.-based brand management and retail group.

Pentland Group owns or has rights to  the Berghaus, Speedo, Ellesse, Kangaroos, Boxfresh and other sports and fashion brands. Last summer, Tracksmith raised $1.6 million from 14W, Index Ventures and Lerer Hippeau
Ventures.

Launched in July 2014, Tracksmith differentiates itself through classic colors as opposed to modern-day neons and also uses a direct-to-consumer model. Its product range includes singlets, racing shorts, longer shorts for casual running, t-shirts, and bags to hold running gear. In April, it entered the Women's category.

Tracksmith plans to use the funds to continue to introduce new designs along with a digital version of Meter, its quarterly running culture-focused print magazine.
