The TJX Companies, Inc. reported July 2003 sales were $899 million, up 11% over $810 million achieved during the four-week period ended August 3, 2002. For the 26 weeks ended August 2, 2003, sales reached $5,898 million, an 8% increase over last year's $5,477 million. Consolidated comparable store sales for the four-week period increased 3% from last year. For the 13-week second quarter, comparable store sales increased 2% over last year. For the 26-week, year-to-date period, consolidated comparable store sales were flat versus last year's 4% increase.

English, President and Chief Executive Officer of The TJX Companies, Inc., stated, “Our 3% comparable store sales increase in July is within the range that we anticipated as we entered the month. Inventories are in excellent shape. We are shipping fresh and exciting fashions at great values to our stores for the upcoming back-to-school season.”
