Timbuk2 Designs was awarded the Emerging Growth Award at last night's 2004 Ebbies Awards Gala in San Francisco. This award, sponsored by Williams-Sonoma, Inc., is presented to a San Francisco small business or emerging growth company that has demonstrated a capacity for creativity and innovation, experienced growth and established itself as a leader in its industry.
“We are delighted and flattered to be recognized by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce as a stand-out small emerging growth company,” said Mark Dwight, President and CEO of Timbuk2. “Timbuk2 is proud to affix the 'Made In USA' label to its popular messenger bags, and especially proud to call San Francisco its headquarters.”
The Ebbies were created by the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce in 1991 to shine a spotlight on San Francisco's top-performing companies and the leaders in corporate philanthropy and community development. Last night's event took place at the Marriott and was attended by the city's top business leaders including Mayor Gavin Newsom, Mary Huss (2004 Chamber Chair) Lee Blitch (Chamber President & CEO), and key civic and community leaders. All Ebbies award winners received a golden kaleidoscope as a symbol of their unique ability to “view the ordinary and see the extraordinary”.
“San Francisco is an icon for innovative, entrepreneurial, successful businesses, and the Ebbies are our way of calling attention to the companies that are thriving in the city's culture of creativity,” says Lee Blitch, Chamber president & CEO. “These are companies whose visionary leadership have made them role models for entire industries. San Francisco is home to the country's most talented, most diverse, best-prepared workforce, as well as some of the most forward-thinking, name-brand companies in the world.”
Over the course of the past six months, Timbuk2 went through a selection process and was chosen in July as one of three top finalists for the Emerging Growth Award. Philippe Becker Design Inc., a design firm that specializes in marketing through branding, package design and print, and the San Francisco Soup Company, which, in just three years, has opened six locations in the city, were the other two finalists in the category.
