The Timberland Company announced the appointment of Irene M. Esteves to the Company’s board of directors, effective June 23, 2003. Ms. Esteves is Senior Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer for Putnam Investments in Boston, Massachusetts.

Before joining Putnam Investments in 1997, Ms. Esteves was Vice President, Corporate Strategy and International Finance for Miller Brewing Company, Inc. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Prior to Miller Brewing Company, she held a variety of positions at S. C. Johnson & Son, Inc., in Racine, Wisconsin.

Esteves received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree from The University of Michigan and her Master of Management degree from the Kellogg School of Northwestern University. In addition to her election to Timberland’s board of directors, she has served on the board of directors for JohnsonDiversey, Inc. in Racine, Wisconsin and Mrs. Baird’s Bakeries, Inc. of Fort Worth, Texas. She is also a member of the Financial Executives Institute.
