Alex Tilly has put Tilly's Endurables of Toronto, Ontario up for sale, according to a report in The Chronicle Herald newspaper of Canada.

Tilly, 77, founded the brand while searching for a hat that would not blow off during his frequent sailing trips. Tilly hats caught on big in the United States in the 1980s in part due to the company's lifetime guarantee. Throughout the life of the company, Tilly has kept hat manufacturing in Canada, although Tilly's Endurables now does source socks from the United States.
