Tern, the Taiwanese company that specializes in making folding bikes for urban transport, named Outdoor Gear Canada (OGC) as its exclusive distributor in Canada.

“We are very pleased to be working with Tern in Canada,” stated Rob White, OGC’s vice-president of sales. “Tern has become an industry leader in a fast-growing category by putting together an extremely attractive and functional folding bike line-up. We’re proud to have them become a key part of our Bicycle Brand Program along with BMC, Intense, Linus, and Opus.”

Based in Montreal, OGC has distributed many of the world’s leading cycling, snowsports, and outdoor brands for over 30 years. The company has over 120 employees and sales representatives and sells to approximately 750 bicycle retailers throughout Canada. OGC has a 120,000-square-foot office/warehouse facility in Montreal, which is LEED certified, and a 10,000-square-foot warehouse/service center in Vancouver.

“The demand for urban transport bikes is on a strong growth curve in Canada,” stated Joshua Hon, Tern vice president. “OGC’s dealer reach and dedication to outstanding service make them the perfect partner for us. As increasing numbers of Canadians turn to cycling for transport, OGC is the partner to help us introduce our products to these cyclists.”

Tern announced Tuesday it had introduced its new Node bike platform, shown at left, designed around the 507 mm tire. By using a larger tire than standard folding bikes, which are built for 16- and 20-inch tries, the Node aims to provide the ride quality of a full-size bike while still packing small for convenient transport and storage.

OGC will be taking over distribution of Tern in Canada from Stile Products, Tern’s subsidiary/distributor in the US. Stile will be working closely with OGC to ensure a smooth and efficient transition. Tern bicycles are presently distributed in 59 countries.
