Sterling Rope Company Inc. of Biddeford, ME has hired Mathew Cardinali as the product manager in its marketing department as the product manager.
Cardinali comes to Sterling from Johnson Outdoors Watercraft in Old Town, ME, where he was the senior industrial designer that helped develop the new ACS2 Seating system for Necky and Old Town kayaks and the award-winning Predator XL fishing kayak for Old Town. Prior to Johnson Outdoors, Cardinali was lead industrial designer at Breg Inc., a sports medicine company based in San Diego, CA. He helped launch numerous products and was awarded three patents as a result of his development efforts.
“We are thrilled to have Mat join our team. With his industrial design background, Mat’s creative and disciplined mindset will be a great asset as we work to execute our long-term product development strategy,” said Sterling Marketing Director Mattison Crowe.
Cardinali will report to Crowe and will be responsible for leading product development from conception to launch. He will perform detailed market and consumer research, identify industry trends, develop Sterling’s product plans and ensure the Sterling brand is properly represented in all markets. Cardinali will collaborate with marketing, R&D, quality and sales to effectively target consumers and deliver the completed product to market.
“I’m very excited to have the opportunity to use my experience working in research and design to create and manage a holistic product development process,” says Cardinali. “Having grown up in Maine, I’m honored to be an integral part of helping a local company achieve its ambitious goals.”
Outside of Cardinali’s job responsibilities at Sterling, he enjoys kayaking, skiing and exploring making the most of the company’s seacoast setting.
