Stein Mart announced net sales and comparable store sales for the four-week, 13-week and 26-week periods ended August 2, 2003.
Total sales for the four-week July period were $80.5 million, a 2.2 % decrease from the $82.3 million in sales for the same period in 2002. Comparable store sales for July decreased 6.2 % from 2002 to 2003.
Merchandise categories with positive comparable store sales performances during July were Intimate Apparel, Boutique and Ladies Sportswear. Geographically, sales trends were better in Southern California, South Florida and the greater Chicago area.
For the 13-week second quarter, total sales were $303.5 million, a 2.5 % decrease from the $311.4 million in sales for the second quarter of 2002. Comparable store sales for the second quarter decreased 5.8 % from 2002 to 2003.
For the 26-week first half of fiscal 2003, total sales were $634.1 million, a 5.0% decrease from the $667.4 million in sales for the first half of 2002. Comparable store sales for the first half decreased 7.6% from 2002 to 2003.
