Sports Direct Partners with China’s ITAT…

Sports Direct International PLC, the UK sporting goods conglomerate, announced a strategic relationship with China's ITAT Group to move into the rapidly expanding Chinese retail market before the Beijing Olympics in August. Sports Direct will invest up to £20 million ($57 mm) between now and April 2009 in Shenzhen-based retailer ITAT, which has some 700 stores across China.

 

Sports Direct will receive a stream of income based on a percentage of ITAT sales of its brands.

Sports Direct International PLC, the UK sporting goods conglomerate, announced a strategic relationship with China's ITAT Group to move into the rapidly expanding Chinese retail market before the Beijing Olympics in August. Sports Direct will invest up to 20 million pounds (U.S. $57 million) between now and April 2009 in Shenzhen-based retailer ITAT, which has some 700 stores across China.


“This alliance offers us an ideal opportunity to access ITAT's fast growing store network, and through it, to be able to offer our brands to the Chinese consumer,” said CEO Dave Forsey. Sports Direct will receive a stream of income based on a percentage of ITAT sales of its brands.
