Specialized Bicycle Components Inc., in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has announced a recall of Allez Sport, Allez Elite, Roubaix, and Sequoia Bicycles due to a handlebar problem. The handlebar may loosen and turn unexpectedly, which can cause the rider to lose control and fall.
Specialized has received two reports of the handlebars loosening. No injuries have been reported.
The recall is expected to affect about 1,500 bicycles sold through Specialized retailers from July 2004 through August 2004 for between $900 and $1,600. The recalled handlebars were sold on the 2005 Allez Sport, 2005 Allez Elite, 2005 Roubaix (base model) and 2005 Sequoia (base model) bicycles. The model names are on the frame of the handlebar.
Consumers have been told to stop using the bicycles with these recalled handlebars and return the recalled handlebars to the place of purchase for replacement handlebars.
