Protect Our Winters said more than 92 brands, 53 resorts, 50 professional athletes and 13 snow sports trade groups signed a letter sent to President Obama Sept.8 to show support for reducing global emissions ahead of the UN Climate Change Conference in Paris next month.

Obama is expected to be among the world leaders who will gather for conference Nov. 30 to Dec. 11 in Paris  to decide how the global community should address climate change.

“Those of us who love and depend on snow for our sports and our livelihoods have a lot at stake, a $62 billion industry, supporting over 950,000 winter tourism-related jobs in the US alone,” reads a petition on protectourwinters.org asking people to sign the sign. “The threat is real and we know what it looks like – warmer, drier winters, multi-year droughts shortening our season and forcing small businesses to close. This isn’t the future we want for us, or our children.”

The letter's signatories include Snowsports Industries America, The National Ski Areas Association and Protect Our Winters.
