SmartWool Corporation hired Mike Lynskey as SmartWool European general manager. Lynskey will fill the role vacated by the promotion of Chris Hahn to chief administrative officer. He will assume responsibility for all aspects of SmartWool’s European operations October 12, 2009.
“After seeing so much success in the European market in the last year, we knew Chris Hahn’s role would be a challenge to fill,” explained Mark Satkiewicz, SmartWool President. “We feel fortunate to have found such an ideal replacement in Mike. He’s a well-respected leader in the industry and has a proven track record of building solid teams and growing smaller core brands internationally.”
SmartWool began to refocus its European operations approximately one year ago under the lead of Chris Hahn. Since then, Hahn and his team built a service platform to support strong partnerships and have demonstrated the company’s unwavering commitment to the European market. As a result, the brand has been re-energized and business has seen a double-digit increase over prior year.
“While in Europe, my team and I focused on our partners and fulfillment of the SmartWool service model. Mike’s expertise in the European markets will be invaluable as we gain even more traction in this critical market,” stated Chris Hahn, SmartWool Chief Administrative Officer. “His experience demonstrates his knowledge and commitment to do what it takes to be successful in the core specialty outdoor arena. I have full confidence he will continue our success while remaining committed to our partners and in delivering the best service in the industry.”
Lynskey has 20 years of experience in the European specialty markets. Most recently, Lynskey was the European Commercial Director for Timberland where his effective management has helped guide the team through challenging economic times. While at Wolverine World Wide Inc., Lynskey was credited with more than doubling the European sales revenues of the Merrell and Sebago brands and the launch of Patagonia footwear.
“SmartWool is a diamond of a brand on the edge of great success. It’s been fascinating to watch SmartWool make impressive strides with its investment in the European market recently,” said Lynskey. “My real passion has always been with smaller, core specialty outdoor companies. I’m especially drawn to SmartWool’s dedication to their partners, the team and the outdoor industry overall. It will be exciting to continue the momentum the team has begun to build and spread the brand loyalty across Europe, much as they have done in the US.”
