Smack Sportswear, best known for its volleyball apparel, hired Tom Mercer as president, chief marketing officer and vice president of sales and marketing. Mercer, formerly at Adidas, will take over these roles, while the CEO, Bill Sigler, will focus on operations, finance, production, and compliance.

Mercer has a long history in the team Sports market. He played multiple sports including college football. He began work as a team dealer rep, where he quickly excelled and was recruited by Adidas to become their U.S. marketing manager for Football/Baseball. Within only 2 years, Tom was promoted to director of team sales, where he developed market strategies aimed at revenue growth. In 2007, Tom became the vice president of sales and Marketing for High 5 Sportswear, where he built and managed a team of reps, developed and implemented go-to-market plans, and exceeded all financial deliverables.

Mercer will focus on re-positioning Smack for rapid growth in the Team Sports market, with specific focus on launching innovative products and services, supply chain efficiency, and strategic planning to deliver greater sales, sustainable revenue growth, and customer loyalty.

“Tom has spent the last 18 years successfully repositioning companies in our industry,” stated Smack CEO Bill Sigler. “I am certain that his experience and guidance will lead to significant growth and profitability for our company.”

“I'm very excited for this opportunity,” stated Mercer. “I am so confident that Smack can become a top brand in this industry that I took a pay cut in exchange for equity, much of which I only receive by attaining certain financial benchmarks.” It is worth noting this will not lead to dilution since these shares are coming from Mr. Sigler's position.

Founded in 1994 on the sands of Manhattan Beach, CA, Smack Sportswear is a leading brand of custom apparel (primarily focused on volleyball). This spring, Smack will launch an online uniform builder, allowing teams to design and order their custom uniforms online.
