Skechers reported that its biggest customer was itself, with owned-retail accounting for approximately 20% of total sales through its more than 180 company-owned stores. International is also a large business for the company, pegged at about 20%. Looking at the remaining distribution channels, Skechers sees about 40% of its business in department stores, which include Kohl's, Penney's and Macy's; about 30% in specialty retail; 18% at independent stores; and a small percentage at athletic specialty.  As for consumer breakdown, 45% of Skechers’ business comes from women, while the kid’s business was said to be “really strong and growing” and men’s was said to have grown “fairly well” during the last few years. SKX draws approximately 3% of sales from the slip resistant work boot category.

Management said that it was experiencing “tremendous” international growth with 10 subsidiaries in 17 different countries throughout Europe. Additionally, the company has 30 international distribution partners serving more than 100 different countries, with an fairly even split between those who set up wholesale and those who set up owned-retail operations.


The company is looking at extending its molded footwear product, Cali. SXK is looking at “adding it with other types of materials to make it a different type of product” including “some sheering, lining”  to make it look “more like a leather footwear with adding rubber soles to it.”
