Skechers USA looks to minimize both cost and energy consumption in the design of the companys new 1.82 million square foot distribution center, which recently broke ground in Rancho Belago, CA, and is slated for completion in 2011.

The building will also play the role of being the largest LEED (low energy electron diffraction) structure in the United States. LEED technology boasts energy saving qualities by limiting the amount of energy released back into the atmosphere, which will further reduce the company’s energy consumption and environmental impact.

“This new facility will provide Skechers with the logistics and distribution support required to match our growth,” said Skechers President, Michael Greenberg. “By using the latest efficient technologies, were able to streamline our expenses while reducing our environmental impact at the same time.

The move will also impact the economy of California, which has all but diminished in recent years. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger commented that the new distribution center will create a jumpstart for the states overall plan to recover. “Skechers will be the first phase of development here and that’s something to be celebrated.
