In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), Shimano North America recalled Shimano Pro Vibe Alloy stems for road bikes. The recalled bicycle stems could crack and break while in use and cause the rider to lose control, posing a risk of injury to the user in a crash.

This recall involves the Pro Vibe Stem (Alloy) model black bike stems for road bkes. The Pro Vibe stems were sold separately and installed by bike stores. The recalled stems have a silver ‘V’ logo on the faceplate and forward-facing mounting bolts.

Consumers are advised to stop using bikes with Prp Vibe alloy handlebar stems and take them back to the retailer where they were purchased or to a Shimano authorized dealer to determine if the stem on the bike is included in the recall and for a free replacement stem and free installation.

Shimano received two reports of the recalled bike stems cracking in the U.S. No injuries were reported.

The bike stems were sold at bicycle stores nationwide and online at Backcountry.com from May 2020 through June 2022 for about $130.
