Sherwood-Drolet Now Under New Ownership and Leadership…

After filing for bankruptcy protection in late May, Canadian hockey equipment manufacturer, Sherwood-Drolet Inc. now has new ownership. Investment firm Carpe Diem Growth Capital has received court approval to purchase all the business assets relating to the Sher-Wood and SWD branded hockey sticks, as well as all hockey related equipment currently manufactured and or distributed by Sherwood-Drolet Ltd in Sherbrooke, PQ.

In addition to acquiring the Sher-Wood business, Carpe Diem also renamed the business to Sher-Wood Hockey Inc., while naming Ralph Trott as president and CEO.

“We are elated that we have the opportunity to re-energize the Sher-Wood brand,” said Dean Topolinski, principal, Carpe Diem Growth Capital. “Since the late 1940's, Sher-Wood sticks have remained the choice for hockey professionals and players that aspire to achieve their best. We are passionate about building on that solid foundation to create a value driven company that meets the needs of our customers, employees, suppliers and other business partners worldwide.”

“[Trott’s] extensive background as a senior executive in retailing and distribution is well recognized. He provides strong leadership to spearhead the rapid development and implementation of the company's go-forward business strategy,” continued Topolinski.

Founded in 1949, Sherwood-Drolet sought protection from creditors in May 2008. Sher-wood was well known and respected for its wood sticks, but fell behind the curve with the advent of one piece composite sticks. The work for Carpe Diem will be providing the necessary resources to re-establish this once powerful hockey brand.

Founded in 1949, Sherwood-Drolet sought protection from creditors in May 2008. In addition to hockey sticks, the company distributed protective gear including pads, gloves, blockers and pants for hockey players and goalies.
