According to Golf Datatech, golf rounds played in the United States were down 4.4 percent in September 2011 compared to September 2010. Public access play was down 4.1 percent for the month and private course activity was down 5.6 percent.

The region seeing the steepest decline was Mid Atlantic, down 15.5 percent. That was followed by East North Central, declining 10.4 percent; New England, 7.7 percent; and South Atlantic, 3.0 percent. Regions showing gains included: West North Central, 1.9 percent; Pacific, 1.3 percent; Mountain, also 1.3 percent; and South Central, 0.5 percent.
