Outdoor Industry Association is working with the U.S. Department of the Interior to host official public listening sessions for President Obama's America's Great Outdoors Initiative (AGO), on Tuesday, August 3rd, in Salt Lake City, UT. The sessions will coincide with the first day of the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market. Details are as follows:

  • 10:00 am – 1:15 pm: Official Public Listening Session at the Radisson Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality Nancy Sutley, and Director of the Bureau of Land Management Bob Abbey, will attend a program designed to solicit your ideas about how to reconnect Americans to the outdoors and develop a 21st-century conservation agenda.
2:00 – 4:00 pm: Youth-Only Listening Session at the Radisson Hotel Salt Lake City Downtown – The administration will host a listening session specifically focused on connecting youth to the outdoors. This listening session is meant for YOUTH and YOUTH-FACILITATORS only.

OIA urges OR attendees to consider attending these listening sessions and advocating for active outdoor recreation by sharing your ideas for helping Americans get outdoors and reconnecting with the nation's land, water, wildlife, culture and history.  The administration will be looking for specific and concrete suggestions. Feel free to drop in on the session for a shorter period of time as we realize Outdoor Retailer is a very busy time. OIA has created a briefing with ideas attendees can review to prepare.  If you have other questions, please feel free to e-mail ago@outdoorindustry.org.

Please RSVP to the Bureau of Land Management as soon as possible by e-mailing americasgreatoutdoorsslc@blm.gov to let them know you are there to represent active outdoor recreation.
