The University of Southern Mississippi is planning on exiting its agreement with Russell Athletics next year, according to a report in the Hattiesburg American.
The contract expires on June 30, 2018. Currently, all SMU teams are Russell Athletic except for baseball (Under Armour) and football (Nike). Women’s basketball is Nike, both apparel and shoes. Men’s basketball is Russell apparel with Adidas shoes. SMU is seeking out one provider across teams.
Georgia Tech indicated in June that it plans to leave Russell Athletic when its apparel contract expires in June 2018. Georgia Tech and Southern Miss are the only schools to be sponsored by Russell Athletic in the NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), previously Division I-A.
In April, Western Kentucky announced it was leaving Russell Athletic for a deal with Nike that begins in July 2017.
