Breckenridge, CO-based Rocky Mountain Underground (RMU), which designs and manufacturing skis and ski gear, will open a retail and hospitality space at the Canadian ski resort, Whistler Blackcomb, in Whistler, British Columbia.
RMU’s combined ski shop and taproom in Breckenridge was the first of its kind in the United States, and the team is bringing that business model to the largest ski resort in North America.
“I couldn’t be more proud of this moment and the entire team at RMU,” said Mike Waesche, RMU president. “From humble beginnings, RMU has always been about dreaming big and creating a community that transcends location. To be on the path to opening a place for our friends in Whistler to enjoy, for those who share the same love for the community and mountains as we do, we are just thrilled.”
The space will be transformative—starting as a coffee shop during the day before morphing into a cocktail and wine bar in the evening.
“RMU’s combination ski shop and taproom in our hometown of Breckenridge has been incredibly successful and fully aligned with resort town living, and we want to bring some Colorado hospitality to our neighbors in the north,” said RMU’s North American sales manager, Scott Mant, who is based in Vancouver and will head up the team. “The space will be a retail location with a coffee shop during the daytime hours and morph into a bar venue at night and we hope to hold events and experiences that become a mainstay in the resort and with the local community.”
The location will be in Whistler’s Upper Village, and plans are to open the doors early December 2019.
