Rock/Creek said it expects approximately 200 entries from 18 states to participate in the Chattanooga Mountains Stage Race this weekend. Racers are scheduled to pick up their race packets at the company's Chattanooga store this evening from 4-7 PM.
The race, which is being presented by SmartWool, one of very few multi-day trail running races in the United States. Rock/Creek said runner from as far away as Colorado, New Mexico and New Hampshire are registered to participate.
For stage one, runners will start at Lula Lake Land Trust and battle 22 miles along Lookout Mountain starting at 8AM. Racers will experience landmarks such as the beautiful Lula Lake and Lula Falls. At mile 10.7, they refuel with water, HEED, fruit, or salty and sweet items at the Aid Station in preparation for the steep approach to Covenant College's Cross-Country Park and finish with scenic views along Eagle Cliff.
Race proceeds benefit Wild Trails, a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit with a mission to promote the use, protection and expansion of trails in greater Chattanooga.
