The Wall Street Journal online is reporting this morning that Polo Ralph Lauren will announce shortly that the company will take over as the official outfitter for the U.S. Olympic team for the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing.  PRL apparently inked a deal with the U.S. Olympic Committee last week to replace Roots Ltd as the official supplier.

Roots, which had a contract through 2008, had provided outfits for the U.S. team for the past three Olympic Games.  However, the Journal is reporting that the Committee determined the designs for this year were too “informal.”

Both Polo and the USOC said they expect to continue the deal to the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, and possibly longer, said the report.
