REI Co-op plans to officially open a new store in Durango, CO, on August 22. The 22,000-square-foot space was built south of the downtown corridor at 40 Turner Drive and will be the retail chain’s 11th store in the state.
“Our team of 38 employees is excited to bring their local knowledge to REI and be a part of Durango’s vibrant outdoor community,” said store manager Meghan Wyrwich. “We are committed to building strong partnerships that reflect and strengthen our shared outdoor values. Together, I believe we can create meaningful experiences and make a lasting impact in this amazing place we all call home.”
REI said the Durango area already has nearly 9,000 co-op members, with approximately 2.2 million members in Colorado.
The closest REI is Grand Junction, 130 miles away. The store doors in Durango will open on July 25 for a soft opening, allowing employees to finalize the store and conduct training.
