Regent Sports Corp., the maker of the sporting goods and game company, has been acquired by Hedstrom Plastics, the custom plastic molding manufacturer based in Ashland, OH. Terms were not disclosed.

Regent Sports, based in Hauppauge, NY with a history of over 70 years, is a leading manufacturer of badminton, baseball, billiards, bocce, croquet, darts, dartboards, horseshoes, soccer, table games and table tennis products. Its products are distributed under the Diamond, Halex, MacGregor, Mike Massey, Mitre, NHL and Regent brands.

Hedstrom is best known for its vinyl rotational molding and ball-printing operations. Last year it acquired exclusive, worldwide distribution of BOSU products from Fitness Quest Inc. in Canton, OH, and formed a new division called Hedstrom Fitness that will house the BOSU product line as part of a push to move deeper into the consumer products side. It also makes tailgating products, a line of bouncy horseballs and exercise balls as well as floating dock systems and garbage containers.

Jim Braeunig, president and CEO of Hedstrom, said in a statement that the Regents acquisition allows us to become a major player in the sporting goods channel by expanding its product offering.

We have executed a strategic goal to serve our retail partners in the area of sporting goods, in addition to the fitness and toy markets, with well-recognized brands, such as Diamond, Halex, MacGregor and Mitre, along with the BOSU, Disney, Marvel. Nickelodeon, and many others properties that we currently offer, said Braeunig. This platform will allow significant organic growth opportunities.
