Reef is opening its warehouse doors on June 28th to select San Diego shapers who will have access to 700 foam blanks at Pre- “Black Monday” prices. Reef arranged and subsidized the grass roots pricing initiative to give back to the local board building community, and to ease some of the woes caused by the December closing of Clark Foam.

The announcement was made in January that Reef would be absorbing the cost of purchasing and importing a 40’ container of Safari Foam blanks from South Africa at current market value, and then offering the blanks to San Diego shapers at pre- Clark Foam closure prices. Thirty-five reputable shapers holding a California Resale Certificate, and doing business in San Diego, responded to the offer.

San Diego shaper, Tim Bessel, had this to say, “This is going to benefit all of the local shapers. No one has stepped up to the plate that can offer high quality blanks at a reasonable price. To get these blanks at the height of our season is crucial for our business.”

On Wednesday, June 28th at 12pm, Reef will welcome the 35 shapers to Reef headquarters allowing them to purchase up to 24 of the South African blanks. Reef made a conscious decision to import a vast quantity of fish blanks, a shape concept which was conceived in San Diego.

Reef’s President, Dave Gatto, commented, “Many shapers in our community suffered a devastating hit, which is why we wanted to make this a local effort.” He continued, “We hope that this gesture will give those shapers a leg up, so they can continue to thrive, and continue to supply the boards that are the basis of our lifestyle.”
