The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with Outerwears Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of Outerwears Funnel Pre-Filters. The filters can create a flash when they are removed from the fuel tank posing a fire hazard. Outerwears has received three reports of flashing when the funnel is removed from the fuel tank following a fueling event, but no reported injuries.

These filters are used to fuel-up off-road and racing vehicles. The recall involves Outerwears Funnel Pre-Filters, or fuel funnel pre-filters, with the model numbers 20-2465-03, 20-2466-03, 20-2467-03, and 20-247
4-03. The red fabric mesh filters were available in two sizes, small and large, and in two different shapes to accommodate various sizes of fueling funnels. The name of the manufacturer, Outerwears, is the only marking on the product.

About 500 units of the product were sold at various off-road and racing retailers nationwide from June 2008 through February 2009 for about $25.

Consumers should stop using the funnel pre-filters and contact Outerwears, Inc. to arrange for a full refund.
