Rebel Sport of New Zealand generated sales of NZ$77.9 million ($67mm) in the second half ended July 27,  up 8.8 percent from the same period in 2013, according to parent company Briscoes Group Limited. Same-store sales of sporting goods were up by an equal amount.

Rebel Sport operates 32 full-line sporting goods stores that carries team, outdoor and fitness apparel, footwear and gear.  It carries such brands as Adidas, Asics, Coleman, Columbia, Hi-Tec, Mizuno, Nike, Petzl, Puma, Russell Athletic, Salomon, Skins and Under Armour.

Briscoe Group also operates stores under the Briscoes Homeware and Living & Giving banners throughout New Zealand.

We are very pleased with the Groups performance across the first half of this financial year,” said Group Managing Director Rod Duke. “Strong sales, improved margin performance, growth in our online channel and ongoing efficiencies throughout the Group have resulted in bottom line profit tracking ahead of last year despite the late start to winter which did slightly impact our second quarter sales and gross margin percentage across the winter-dependent categories.”

Briscoe Group completed a number of store renovations during the first half to increase the amount of space in its stores dedicated to merchandizing stock and improving the flow of stock to the sales floor.
