Qatar Football Association President HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani announced a new sponsorship agreement with Nike Inc. to become the official national team kit supplier.
The partnership was signed at the ASPIRE4SPORT Congress and Exhibition, held this week in Doha. The agreement sees Nike appointed by the QFA as exclusive sponsor and authorized kit supplier. All Qatar's national teams, from the first team (men and women) through youth and futsal teams will wear NIKE kits.
Under this agreement, Qatar joins other prestigious Nike sponsored national teams such as Brasil, Portugal and Holland, along with iconic clubs including Manchester United, FC Barcelona and Arsenal FC. QFA President, HE Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani said, “This major sponsorship deal is the latest step in the development and progression of football in Qatar. We are delighted to have come to an agreement with NIKE-the world's most innovative football brand. This partnership represents a great opportunity to elevate our game and create international sporting moments that resonate globally.”
Responding to the partnership announcement, Bert Hoyt, VP & General Manager Global Football said, “We are excited with today's announcement and proud to enter this partnership with the Qatar Football Association. Qatar is focused on becoming a leader in global football and is fast becoming a center for sports in the Middle East.
We are proud to bring Nike innovation to the forefront of sporting development in this region.” Bruno Metsu, Qatar's national team coach also expressed his support for the deal, “Bringing NIKE on board is a very positive step for the QFA, not only because our players will benefit from the most innovative football products, but also the inspiration and winning mentality that Nike represents.”
The Qatar national team will wear the new Nike kit for the first time during the AFC Asia Cup in Qatar in January 2011.
