Tread Labs, the performance insole and footwear brand, reported it “refurbished nearly 10,000 insoles and sandals since its founding in 2017.”
Tread Labs said its process is “done by hand at its company headquarters in Woburn, takes approximately seven days and costs between $36.00 and $72.00 with free shipping.”
Tread Labs insoles are constructed with a foam top cover and molded arch plate. To refurbish a pair of worn insoles, Tread Labs “removes the used top cover and swaps it with a 100 percent recycled polyester replacement that is used on the existing arch plate. The sandals are made with 100 percent recycled yarns and a 3D knitting process that produces zero waste are also resolvable, giving an already durable product an extended useful life.”
“We have a responsibility to make smart business decisions that have minimal impact on the planet,” said founder Mark Paigen. “Since we have a generous return policy and encourage customers to try multiple styles and arch heights to find their perfect fit, we were seeing many returns that had barely been used. It didn’t make sense to throw them away and create all that waste. Instead, we decided to give these like-new returns a second life with our refurbished program.”
