Pottstown, PA—Schuylkill Valley Sports President, Jerry Williams, serves on the board of the National Sporting Goods Association and recently visited Congress to lobby on behalf of the PHIT Act (Personal Health Investment Today).  SVS continues to support this bipartisan piece of legislation that will allow the use of Pre-Tax Medical Accounts, such as Flexible Spending Accounts or Health Saving Accounts, towards physical activity.  If passed that money could be used to cover physical activity expenses such as:

  • youth & adult sports league fees
  • health club memberships
  • exercise classes
  • sports & fitness equipment
  • youth camps & more

As healthcare costs continue to skyrocket, reports show that youth are becoming more and more inactive, contributing to one in three now overweight.  Jerry Williams mentioned, “there surprisingly was bi-partisan support, has already passed in the House of Representatives and has a good chance to be enacted into law this year”.
