ISA TanTec, a manufacturer of leather known for its LITE (Low Impact To the Environment) manufacturing systems, announced that Mississippi TanTec (MTL), located in the U.S., has undergone the Leather Working Group (LWG) audit protocol and received certification as a gold-rated tannery.
“We did not slow down on investing in sustainable projects even during the toughest time of the COVID-19 outbreak. We constantly improve the mechanism at all our tanneries to minimize the environmental impact from the leather manufacturing process, and we are thrilled to see our efforts pay off, having TTL scored as LWG gold last year, and now MTL has also reached the same standard,” said Uwe Hutzler, ISA TanTec’s CEO.
“The foundation of the achievement was set by transferring best practices from Asia and a strong focus on training our staff in the USA. Furthermore, ideas were generated by the MTL team to improve safety and optimize the use of resources. For example, timers were installed throughout the facility, including the office, and helped to drastically reduce our energy consumption,” added Jens Kaufhold, vice president, finance and admin, MTL.
All four ISA TanTec’s tanneries are rated as LWG gold. Moving forward, it will remain committed to the LITE concept, enhancing and developing sustainable initiatives, some recent investments including but not limited to the responsible sourcing program, Greener Pastures, and the Creation of Sustainable Materials division, COSM.
