According to Peter Rauber, chief executive officer of Maloja. “In 2004, I had a cool idea for something new in sportswear and streetwear. At the time, cycling was becoming a popular lifestyle activity but no one was designing clothing that reflected the culture and soul of the sport. Maloja was founded on the values of curiosity, simplicity and following our own way. This spirit continues to drive the company 15 years later.”
Added Landon Stirling, Maloja’s North American president, “Our customer base has grown from the style innovators to the technical early adopters. Initially, we focused on lifestyle designs which later evolved to extremely technical products with a strong stylized look. With this approach, we have not only garnered a fashion following but respect from athletes and outdoor enthusiasts worldwide.”
Headquartered in Germany, Maloja continues to build its presence in North America, with a focus on both retail and direct-to-consumer efforts. Maloja opened the doors of its first North American flagship store in Stowe, Vermont in Septemeber 2019. The store ‘Mountain Road Outfitters’ features Maloja’s entire collection for mountain and road cycling, climbing, snowboarding and Nordic, backcountry and alpine skiing as well as outdoor lifestyle apparel. Maloja is also the official outfitter of the U.S. Biathlon team providing the team with uniforms that include lightweight racing suits with bonded and ultrasonically welded seams and laser-cut inserts. Throughout the partnership, Maloja continues to work with the U.S. Biathlon athletes to adapt the designs for optimal performance.
