1% for the Planet is kicking off its 20th anniversary with its Global Summit 2022: Los Angeles event. Founded in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, the organization’s mission is to “ensure that the Planet and future generations thrive.”
1% said its “global network consists of more than 5,000 businesses from 60 countries and 1,000 individual members from 50 countries, and more than 5,000 approved environmental nonprofits from 90 countries.”
Business members “give at least 1% of their annual revenues through a combination of money, in-kind and promotional expenses to approved nonprofits. Individual members give at least 1% of their yearly salary through monetary and/or volunteer support.”
In 2021, 1% said it added “2,500 new business and individual members, and drove more than $50 million in annual donations from members directly to nonprofit partners.”
For 2022, 1% said it is “scaling its impact by engaging more members and launching the 1% for the Planet Impact Fund at National Philanthropic Trust.” And this week, it is hosting its in-person and virtual Global Summit 2022″ Los Angeles, a three-day conference of “environmental action, innovation and connection.” Registration is open to certified 1% for the Planet business and individual members.
The venue is at The Garland in North Hollywood from March 15-17.
