Precor has expanded its operations into Japan, with new offices in Tokyo and Osaka.
“We see great opportunity for growth in Japan, and are committed to building Precor’s presence throughout Asia,” said Joe Plastino, Precor international division vice president. “Until now, Precor served Japan through a local distributor. It’s time to step forward with the greater commitment of a company-owned office.”
Plastino noted that Precor’s ability to expand in markets such as Japan dramatically increased when Precor joined global sporting goods leader Amer Sports.
“When Amer purchased Precor in October 2002, we spoke about opportunities in leveraging Amer’s extensive international network and expertise within national markets,” said Plastino. “This is a great first step in collaborating with Amer Sports to take Precor to the next level internationally.”
In Japan, Precor offices are located within existing Amer Sports offices, where Precor division manager Koji Akiya and his team are working closely with Amer finance and operations resources. Recruited from a former Precor distributor, Akiya is a Precor veteran, involved with the brand in Japan since 1988. Plastino said the Japan offices would be fully staffed in advance of Precor’s launch at the Health & Fitness Japan 2003 show in mid-June.
