Play Outdoors, a national online retailer of kids’ outdoor clothing and gear, announces the grand opening of its first brick-and-mortar store in its hometown – Bend, Oregon. The store represents the next in a series of expansion moves the successful retailer has planned for growth.

Sarah Laufer, co-founder and CEO and husband Justin Rae, co-founder and CFO, know that as an online retailer, they could have based their operations just about anywhere.

“We chose Bend because we wanted to raise our young family in a place that had ample sunshine, fresh air, and plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities,” said Laufer. “It turns out that those same elements we value as a family also make Bend the perfect place for us to open our first store.”

The company also recently engaged 14 Hands, a Bend and Portland-based creative agency, to bring the Play Outdoors personality and message to life through a new print and digital campaign. The new logo is already being used in certain communication vehicles such as Facebook, and the comprehensive launch of the new campaign will take place in October 2010.

The new Play Outdoors store, which just opened it doors, will celebrate its grand opening with an outdoor “Extravaganza and Festival of Ruckus” on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 4:10 pm. Activities will include watermelon bowling, a visit with Smokey the Bear among other rambunctious undertakings and a drawing for a $300 Play Outdoors gift card.
