Outdoor Voices will open a flagship store in Austin in the former RunTex location at Lake Austin Boulevard and MoPac Expressway.
The opening was revealed as part of a profile in The New York Times of CEO Tyler Haney. Outdoor Voices has nine stores.
Haney told the Austin Business Journal she chose the store partly because of its history.
“Since moving here I have spent a lot of time on the Lady Bird Lake trail and the spot for our flagship is a major landmark on the trail, and when driving down Lake Austin Boulevard when heading to the Hill Country. It used to be RunTex — a recreational hub for the city — so when the spot opened up last year we had to swoop in. We feel super excited to carry on RunTex’s legacy as we continue to build the next great recreation brand.”
The New York Times’ article also revealed the launch last week of The Recreationalist, an editorial platform that includes city guides and profiles to inspire people to stay active. She told the Times, “It’ll be a platform for our community to discover everything from product recommendations to city guides to features on inspiring people.”
The first issue features an interview with Chip Wilson, the founder and former CEO of Lululemon. Other people profiled include artist and activist iO Tillett Wright, and Mashama Bailey, a chef who participated in Chef’s Table on Netflix.
