Outdoor Research has partnered with magazine publisher and blogger Christian Beckwith to present the inaugural Outerlocal Summer Games July 7 at Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole, WY.

The games are expected to draw climbers, runners, mountain bikers, and paragliders. Christian Beckwith, an accomplished mountaineer, long-time Jackson resident, founder of Alpinist magazine and an Outdoor Research Regional Ambassador, created the Games in celebration of the community he is building on his new website Outerlocal, a social networking hub for outdoor adventurers.

“It’s exciting to have the support of an industry leader like Outdoor Research,” said Beckwith. “OR and I have created a strong partnership through our collaborations with Outerlocal, and it’s an honor to work with them again on this event. The Games attract those seeking adventure, and companies like Outdoor Research give these athletes the necessary tools they need to get after it.”

While some of the events require some serious endurance and training, the Games also aim to appeal to the greater public and outdoor community as well. With demos available from an array of companies including Outdoor Research and SCARPA, clinics and products will be available to all those who are interested in improving in their sport. Local nonprofit organizations will also be onsite to showcase their latest projects and educate attendees on how to get involved.

For those looking to sit back and enjoy the events from the base of Snow King, local food and drink will be offered from a selection of Jackson eateries. There will also be music by DJ El Jefe and plenty of raffles with prizes valuing more than $10,000.

“Teaming up with Christian and the Outerlocal Summer Games is a natural fit for us,” said Charlie Lozner, director of marketing for Outdoor Research. “The combination of competitive spirit, passion for sport, and outdoor education and exploration found at the Games is what we at Outdoor Research are all about, and our passion for the outdoors means we are always looking to support those looking for the next adventure. We are psyched to be a part of the inaugural Games and look forward to continuing our partnership with Outerlocal.”
