As the nation celebrated Earth Day last week, the outdoor community took the day as an opportunity to go beyond their usual “green” activities with additional outdoor conservation efforts.
– For the week of April 18-26, KEEN donated 10-minute increments of employee time for every pair of Coronado shoes purchased on its website, and for any Harvest product purchased at a KEEN booth. The volunteer time was dedicated to Waterkeeper Alliance, an advocacy organization working to protect ecosystems and water quality. Additionally, the company took party in multiple Earth Day festivals across the country, including teaming up with Dicks Sporting Goods to help plant 125 trees in Pittsburgh.
– Icebreaker, Forest Park Conservancy / Friends of Forest Park lead an Earth Day hike through Forest Park in Portland, OR. The PDX Pedi Cab transported Icebreaker staff from the office to the park to reduce emissions. In addition to the hike, Icebreaker donated 10% of all sales from its Touch Lab store to the FPC Fund.
– Oboz continued its One More Tree program, in which the company plants a tree for every pair of shoes it sells. On April 24 and 25, two Oboz retailers Schees in Bozeman, MT and Cumberland Transit in Nashville, TN gave customers tree seedlings.
