Osprey Packs, Inc. expects to complete an expansion of its Colorado headquarters in the balk half of the year to accommodate a growing staff.  The announcement comes as the pack maker prepares for the opening of its new distribution center in Ogden, UT.

The expanded corporate headquarters in Cortez will offer a creative work environment and allow for continued company growth. Fourteen new positions will be added to Osprey’s Cortez headquarters in 2015 including increases to the sales, marketing, quality & returns and IT departments. Additionally, Mike Pfotenhauer and Diane Wren, founders of Osprey Packs, recently relocated back to Cortez from California to be closer to the company at the brand’s headquarters.

“This is an exciting time for Osprey,” said Tom Barney, CEO of Osprey Packs. “We just concluded our 40th anniversary year where we enjoyed double-digit sales growth and started several important initiatives, including expanding to our new distribution facility in Ogden and a further commitment to Cortez as our world headquarters. 2015 will surely be a year of opportunity and growth for the brand. Opening a new Distribution Center allows us to better serve our customers but our primary home remains in Southwest Colorado around our Cortez main offices.”

Osprey’s decision to locate a new Distribution Center in Ogden was a strategic one. The change positions Osprey’s domestic fulfillment near the national rail network, allowing the company to better fulfill shipments to the brand’s retailer base and significantly reduce its carbon footprint. It also places distribution in a transportation hub while focusing most other company functions in Colorado. The company currently receives and distributes by overland truck.

This change also addresses the office space constraints Osprey has faced in recent years requiring the company to patch together several smaller facilities. By contrast, Osprey’s enhanced headquarters in Cortez streamlines the organization with headquarters in one facility in Colorado and a single distribution center in Utah. The new Ogden DC is set to open mid-April with a staff of 23.

Osprey Packs makes packs and bags designed to help adventurers enjoy their outdoor, biking, active everyday and travel pursuits. In addition to its headquarters   near the rugged San Juan Mountains on the edge of desert canyon country and its new distribution center in Utha, Osprey  maintains a product development office in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, near the factories which manufactures its products. In 2009, Osprey opened a design office in Mill Valley, CA, a hub of design talent and the birthplace of mountain biking.
