Ortovox, the mountain safety and alpine gear manufacturer, has promoted Stefan Kohlbauer to chief executive officer (CEO), effective March 1. Previously, he was the director of sales and marketing.

Kohlbauer’s appointment follows a transition period during which Martin Riebel, managing director of Schwan-Stabilo Outdoor GmbH, provided interim leadership.

“Stefan Kohlbauer is a very experienced industry expert with a profound understanding of the brand and the markets and a clear vision for the future of Ortovox,” said Riebel. ”His focus on sound growth, sustainability, innovativeness, and collaborative partnership will further strengthen our brand. I am particularly glad that we have been able to enlist an internal candidate for this important role.”

Kohlbauer, a passionate alpinist, based in the Tyrol region. The company, based in Munich, Germany, reported that as it continues to grow in the U.S., “Kohlbauer’s leadership will drive further innovation in avalanche safety, merino wool apparel and technical mountain gear.
