Outdoor Recreation Roundtable (ORR), the coalition of outdoor recreation trade associations that collectively represents the $862 billion outdoor recreation economy, hired Ambreen Tariq as senior program director, responsible for working on the Together Outdoors, Workforce and Rural Development programs and with state outdoor recreation offices.
“Ambreen brings a decade of government experience from her work with the Department of Labor, Environmental Protection Agency and White House,” said Jessica Wahl-Turner, president of ORR. “Ambreen’s curiosity, collaborative nature and drive to support outdoor recreation businesses and enthusiasts have propelled her success as an entrepreneur with Brown People Camping. We are thrilled to bring her deep background in workforce, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and communications to ORR’s team and the outdoor recreation economy as we support the health and sustainability of our nation’s public lands and waters and work to ensure that all Americans can access the great outdoors and feel welcome there.”
Tariq comes to the role as an author of “Fatima’s Great Outdoors” and founder of Brown People Camping. She is a non-practicing attorney, and, most recently, a strategic communications specialist for the Federal Government in Washington. She has worked with several outdoor recreation businesses and has been a brand ambassador for Ford Mustang, Merrell, L.L. Bean, Airstream, Coleman, REI, and others. She is also an Advisory Council Member of the Sierra Club’s Outdoors for All Campaign and the Outdoors Alliance for Kids, from whom she received the 2023 Leadership Award. She also previously served on the Board of Directors of the Appalachian Trail Conservancy and Green Muslims.
