The Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC) announced the winners of OIWC’s 2015 Pioneering Woman and First Ascent Awards for the bike industry.
Jessica Klodnicki, executive VP and general manager of Bell Helmets and Blackburn, has been awarded the Pioneering Woman Award and Erin Sprague, director of market development for Specialized Bicycle Components USA, has won the First Ascent Award.
Nominated by their peers for inspiring leadership at companies where they work, as well as in the industry as a whole, OIWC created the Pioneering Woman Award and First Ascent Award to honor women who have furthered the vision of OIWC. Award winners will be honored at Interbike at the OIWC Pledge Celebration and Leadership Awards on September 16, featuring guest speaker, Jerry Stritzke, REI president and CEO.
“Each of these women have contributed to the growth and expansion of our industry, as well as had a positive impact on the lives of those around them,” said Amy Luther, OIWC Program Director. “They have paved the way for future leaders and have played an important role in creating a welcoming and inclusive bike industry. We are thrilled to recognize their efforts, which inspire more women who aspire to advance within the industry.”
The Pioneering Woman Award recognizes a woman who has paved the way for women in the industry through outstanding commitment toward mentoring female colleagues. Jessica was nominated by 20 individuals for this honor demonstrating the wide-spread impact she has made.
“Her diplomacy and dedication has served her well, and is changing the industry's view on the tremendous and growing female market,” said Pam Ferguson, Marketing Minds owner.
The First Ascent Award recognizes a woman who demonstrates strong potential for leadership.
“Erin has increased sales, increased the percent of women in the organization, and shows a clear career path for female employees with increased opportunities,” said Jennifer Capasso, a colleague at Specialized.
These industry leaders will be honored at the OIWC Pledge Celebration & Leadership Awards at Interbike on Wednesday, September 16 from 6 to 7p.m., and is open to all Interbike attendees.
