Nicole Ruth Peters, director of business operations for Teva, passed away while hiking near her home in Santa Barbara, CA Friday, Sept. 14.

Peters, 36, died after calling 911 around 1 p.m. Friday to complain of chest pains while walking with her three dogs on the Romero Canyon Trail in Montecito, according to local newspaper reports.

Paramedics traced GPS coordinates from her cell phone, but by the time they found her, she had died. The paramedics airlifted her body from its location while other rescuers hiked out with her three dogs, which were turned over to animal control, but have since been retrieved by a friend.

Peters was identified in local news reports as an avid spear fisher, wind surfer and mountain biker.  She worked at Teva's headquarter in nearby Goleta. Teva is a division of Deckers Outdoor Corp.
