Hubert Vogelsinger, an early pioneer of soccer camps in the U.S. and a coach in the original North American Soccer League (NASL), passed away at age 85.
Born in Austria, Vogelsinger came to America in 1961. In 1965 he founded the Vogelsinger Soccer Academy, one of the first soccer camps in the U.S., according to a press release from US Sports Camps, the licensed provider of Nike Sports Camps.
Vogelsinger was also a key figure in the NASL, starting his professional coaching career with the Boston Minutemen in 1974. He later led Team Hawaii and the San Diego Sockers.
“Hubert Vogelsinger truly left his mark on soccer in the U.S.,” said Brendan Doyle, executive vice president for US Sports Camps, “US Sports Camps is proud to continue his legacy through the Nike Vogelsinger Soccer Camps, which will have 1,000 players in camps this summer close to 60 years after the first Vogelsinger Soccer Camps.”
US Sports Camps (USSC), headquartered in San Rafael, CA, is America’s largest sports camp network and the licensed provider of Nike Sports Camps. USSC is part of the Youth Enrichment Brands (YEB) network.
