Nike, Inc. has appointed Cheryan Jacob, a former Salesforce, Inc. executive, as CIO as part of an effort to “modernize” the active lifestyle company’s technology infrastructure.
Nike named Jacob, who has also worked at Microsoft Corp. and Flexport Inc., this month as CIO, according to an internal memo reviewed by Bloomberg.
“The CIO will play a key role in delivering on our priority of simplifying, standardizing, and modernizing our platforms,” stated Chief Technology Officer Dr. Muge Erdirik Dogan in an internal memo obtained by Bloomberg.
Nike’s global technology division, responsible for developing systems, managing data, and providing engineering support, has been vital to its efforts to boost direct-to-consumer sales through its websites and apps.
In recent years, the department has undergone several changes under Chief Executive Officer John Donahoe. Last year, Nike’s top tech executive, Ratnakar Lavu, resigned. In November, Nike appointed Dogan, a longtime Amazon.com, Inc. fashion executive, as CTO.
New job listings at Nike include senior engineering positions focused on “the transformation of Nike foundational infrastructure.”
