Nike Inc. is is suing a businessman who licenses the names and images of famous
dead people and the family of Hall of Fame coach Vince Lombardi.
According to The Oregonian, Nike wanted
to use a Lombardi speech for a television and Internet commercial. A contract was drawn up and
the agent, Mark Roesler, signed a $150,000 contract. Nike later learned the words didnt come from a speech but from a book written by Lombardi’s son, Vince Jr.
Nike then asked for its money back, but Roesler refused. Nike then went to
court in Oregon and sued Roesler, as well as Lombardi’s son and daughter, alleging breach of contract.
