Nike has signed Norwegian striker Ada Hegerberg to a 10-year endorsement deal. The 24-year-old, already the UEFA Champions League career goal leader, had been with Puma.
She posted a picture of herself with the caption, “Just Did It” on Instagram to confirm the agreement.
Hegerberg, who plays for Olympique Lyonnais, was the first recipient of the Ballon d’Or Féminin, the annual award recognizing the best female soccer player. She did not participate in last year’s World Cup in France due to a long-standing disagreement with the Norwegian FA and was succeeded as Ballon d’Or winner for 2019 by U.S. star Megan Rapinoe.
The Agence France-Presse (AFP) news agency said the contract is worth ‘upwards of’ €1 million ($1.1 million) while Forbes reported that Nike will pay the 24-year-old a six-figure fee annually.
